Backyard Curling Begins In October

Signups are under way now for Northwest Arean’s Backyard Curling leagues, which will begin in mid-October. Submitted photo

Registration opened Monday for Northwest Arena’s Backyard Curling leagues.

Play will begin Oct. 12. Leagues will be offered once a week for eight weeks with multiple times available on Mondays and Wednesdays, and a single league on Fridays at 4:30 p.m. Each league is comprised of four-person teams with an entry fee of $280 per team.

Appropriate for ages 18 to 80, backyard curling takes place on the ice, though no special equipment or skates are required. It is a low-contact activity and one where participants can easily adhere to COVID-19 guidelines while enjoying a social and engaging sport. All leagues and tournaments sold out last year and Northwest Arena has expanded the season to offer times for an additional 28 teams. Interested teams are encouraged to register now to guarantee a spot.

Adapted for Northwest Arena, backyard curling can be a fun team-building exercise or activity for friends. Lessons and practices begin Oct. 5. In addition to masks and staying 6 feet apart, participants are encouraged to wear gloves.

For more information, call the Northwest Arena at 484-2624 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or visit northwestarena.com.
