Zed Williams Makes SportsCenter’s Top 10

Silver Creek Graduate Even Receives Props From Belichick During Broadcast On NBC

The Premier Lacrosse League began its season over the weekend in the national spotlight on NBC.

The first game featured the Whipsnakes and the Redwoods in a back and forth match that ultimately saw the defending PLL champions, the Whipsnakes, come out on top 13-9.

The Whipsnakes were led by former Silver Creek Central School star Zed Williams, who was making his debut with the team. Williams didn’t take long to show the nation his goal-scoring touch as he found the back of the net three times in the second period.

Williams pulled off a highlight-reel goal to seal the hat trick as he fought off a defender on the right wing. Sprinting towards the net, Williams pushed into the defender and spun off of him and dove towards the goal while sliding a backhand shot past the goalie. The amazing goal made it to the sixth spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 list.

The Whipsnakes pulled away thanks largely to Williams’ offensive burst in the second period and maintained that momentum on the way to the victory. His play even drew the praise of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who was interviewed by the network during the game.

When Belichick was asked which player he would take if he was picking a fantasy lacrosse team he stated, before mentioning anyone else, that Williams was having a big day.

Williams and the Whipsnakes will look to continue their season at 7 p.m. Thursday against Atlas Lacrosse Club on NBCSN.
