Lakewood GC’s Damore Wins WNYPGA’s First Major Of Season

STAFFORD — Pat Damore, PGA pro at Lakewood Golf Center, won the Western New York Open on Monday at Stafford Country Club.

Damore, a member at Conewango Valley Country Club, won the Professional Division on the first playoff hole against Battistoni Golf Center’s Matt Stasiak.

Damore and Stasiak fired matching 2-under 70s over the first 18 holes.

The Western New York Open is the Western New York PGA Tour’s first major of the season.

Pinehurst Golf Club’s Ryan Swanson finished in a five-way tie for 19th place with a 5-over 77. Bartlett Country Club’s Dwayne Randall finished tied for 24th at 6-over 78 and Elkdale CC’s Jack Widger finished tied for 30th at 7-over 79. Moon Brook CC’s Mike Touhey finished in an eight-way tie for 37th at 8-over.

Golf Evolution’s David Wedzik won the Senior PGA Member and Associated Division with an even-par 72. He won the third hole of a playoff over The Park CC’s Rod Blair. Kirk Stauffer, PGA life member from Bradford, Pennsylvania, tied for seventh at 5-over. Widger’s 7-over tied him for 13th and Touhey’s 8-over tied him for 15th.

Geneva CC’s John Mittiga won the overall title and the Amateur Division with a 4-under 68 while Patrick Nealon was second at 3-under. Irondequoit CC’s Jiarong Liu finished third at 1-under and Brandon Grzywacz was fourth at even-par 72.

Lauren Tallman, the PGA pro from Ravenwood Golf Club, won the Women’s Division with a 77.
