Nearly 100 To Be Honored At Monday’s Banquet

Several local athletes will be honored as the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame’s 39th annual Induction Dinner on Monday at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama will be honored for winning the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championship will individual Wolfpack players John Swabik, Jordan Svetz, Lucas Rater, Zavon Overton, Cameron Barmore and Gerrit Hinsdale will be recognized for achieving New York State Sportswriters Association First-Team All-State accolades in Class D. Barmore and Hinsdale were also named Class D co-Players of the Year.

In addition, Southwestern’s Tywon Wright, Conrad Thomas and Cooper Pannes were named First-Team All-State in Class C; Fredonia’s Jake Skinner was named First-Team All-State in Class C; and Maple Grove’s Kyle Trim was named First-Team All-State in 8-man football.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Rayven Sample, Austin Johns, Bryce Baglia and Collin Barmore will be honored for their Division II state championship in the 1,600-meter relay; Cameron Barmore will be recognized for his Division II state high jump title; and Swabik will be honored for his Division II state pentathlon championship. Maple Grove’s Carson Crist will be recognized for being named First-Team All-State in the Division II pentathlon.

Swabik also achieved All-American status for Chautauqua Striders at the National Junior Olympics in the 15-16 Boys Decathlon. Michael Sayers of Lakewood will be honored for his gold medals in the javelin and discus at the Empire State Senior Games.

Dunkirk’s girls bowling team will be recognized for its Division II state championship.

Southwestern’s Mika Walters will be honored for her All-American status from the National Coaches Association in girls wrestling.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Robbie Penhollow will be recognized for his Division II state championship at 195 pounds while Jamestown Community College’s Cameron Page will be honored for achieving NJCAA All-American status at 184 pounds.

In youth wrestling, Westfield/Ripley/Chautauqua Lake’s Mason Maring (Division 7, 155 pounds), Brayden Potter (Division 6, 112 pounds), Jordan Joslyn (Division 8, 87 pounds), Cyrus Hurd (Division 8, 81 pounds) and Chase Shirley (Division 2, 50 pounds) as well as Maple Grove’s Maddie Wadsworth (99 pounds) will be honored for their state championships.

Panama’s Natalie Angeletti and Kylie Schnars will be recognized for being named First-Team All-State in Class D volleyball while Jamestown Community College’s Jenna Caskey will be honored for her NJCAA Division III All-American status.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Kylee Odell and Maple Grove’s Ava Crist will be recognized for being named First-Team All-State in Class D cross country while Edinboro University’s Hope Pietrocarlo will be honored for her NCAA Division II All-American status.

Panama’s Ashlyn Harvey will be recognized for being named First-Team All-State in Class D softball and the Panthers’ Cameron Barmore will be honored for being named First-Team All-State in Class D basketball.

Corrine Inkley of Flyers Gymnastics will be recognized for her state Junior Olympics Level 7 all-around championship.

SUNY Brockport’s Matthew Merchant will be honored after being named an NCAA Division III All-American in diving.

Falconer’s Nick Kahanic will be recognized after winning the state Highland Games championship.

Frewsburg’s Chase Haglund will be honored for being named a Youth All-American with the Erie Outlaws baseball team and Frewsburg’s Teghan Trocki will be recognized for winning the state Elks’ Hoop Shoot championship in the 10-11 girls division.

Antonio Torres Jr. of the YMCA Boxing Club will be honored for winning the state Golden Gloves Novice Division championship at 201 pounds.

Brian Hildom of Garage Rats Racing will be recognized for his Unadilla MX Rewind 250 Class national championship.

The Gerry Rodeo, hosted by the Gerry Fire Department, will be honored for holding the longest-running rodeo east of the Mississippi River for 75 consecutive years.

Nate Milne of Muhlenberg College will be recognized for being named the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year.

Alex Lee Yaw of Gannon University will be honored for being named a United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II First-Team All-American.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley will be recognized for winning the NYSPHSAA Division II Dual Meet championship.

The CSHOF will also be honoring its Legacy Award winners.

Chautauqua Lake’s Austin Strong will be given the Bill Rollinger and Tony LeVoie Legacy Award for boys swimming while Southwestern’s Grace Wood will be given the Grace M. Dolan Legacy Award for girls swimming.

Panama’s Kylie Schnars will be given the Julie Gawronski Tickle Legacy Award for girls multi-sport athletes and Panama’s Cameron Barmore will be given the Tom Prechtl Legacy Award for boys multi-sport athletes.

Chautauqua Lake’s Kyler Majka will be given the Ken Martin Legacy Award for baseball.

Barmore will receive the Anthony Deppas Legacy Award for boys basketball and Panama’s Natalie Angeletti will receive the Mel Swanson Legacy Award for girls basketball.

Frewsburg’s Jameson Sposato will receive the Nelson Turnell Legacy Award for boys tennis.

Sherman’s John Swabik will receive the Sirianni Family Legacy Award for track and field.

Braden Cook and Sally Watson will be given the Jack Keeney Legacy Awards for Panama athletics.

Demarri Jones and Giovana Calamunci will be given the Ted Olsen/Bill Present Legacy Awards for Jamestown athletics.

Jeff Bloomquist will receive the James A. Sharp Legacy Award for volunteering and Pete Howard will receive the Ramsay Riddell Legacy Award for winter sports.

Doug Hoisington will be given the Dr. Charles E. Sinatra Legacy Award for being an unsung hero while the CSHOF’s President’s Legacy Award will be announced at the banquet.

Chairman Chip Johnson has announced that the induction dinner is sold out.

The inductees of the class of 2020 are George Bataitis, Bob Bender, Bob Goold, Christine (Carlson) Jenkins, Justin Johnson, Tim Nobles, Elly Norton, Mark Orlando and Mike Tramuta.
