Michael, Gullotti Qualify For States

CHEEKTOWAGA — For most boys bowlers in Section VI, Wednesday was their last action of the winter.

Not Jamestown’s Brandon Michael and Falconer’s Matt Gullotti.

Michael finished in fifth place overall and Gullotti took 10th as the pair qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships, which will be held at AMF Strike ‘N Spare in Syracuse on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.

West Seneca West’s Spencer Guise and Parker Flis, Tonawanda’s Brian Stone and JFK’s Cameron Stark also qualified for states.

Michael was fairly consistent all day Wednesday with a morning session of 246-226-224-696. In the afternoon, he rolled a 232-216-239-687.

Gullotti, on the other hand, left himself with some work to do in the afternoon. In the morning, he had a 191-186-211-588. But Gullotti rolled the highest series of the afternoon with a 255-248-251-754.

Silver Creek’s Nathaniel Barlette-Dye finished tied for 15th place with a 209-194-201-604 in the morning and a 247-267-195-709 in the afternoon, while Fredonia’s Jacob Patterson finished in 22nd with 267-217-203-687 in the morning and 215-171-225-611 in the afternoon. Jamestown’s Kyle Christensen rolled a 169-255-226-650 in the morning and a 192-234-213-639 in the afternoon to finish in 25th, while teammate Zach Ryberg’s 197-232-224-653 in the morning and 188-209-227-624 was good for 28th.

Jamestown finished in third place in Class A with a 994-1,070-1,104-1,025-1,041-1,060-6,255. Orchard Park finished in first place with a 1,070-1,161-1,191-1,111-1,183-1,107-6,823.

Kenmore East captured the Class B crown with a 995-1,098-1,013-954-866-861-5,787.

Fredonia finished in second place in Class C with an 1,144-1,018-973-955-870-947-5,907. Depew finished in first place with a 911-1,106-1,027-1,092-1,016-998-6,150.

Gowanda finished in third place in Class D with a 908-970-974-832-901-944-5,529. JFK finished in first with a 946-897-967-1,093-986-950-5,839.
