Jamestown Prevails On Drake’s Tip-In

ORCHARD PARK — Freshman Trey Drake scored on a tip-in with 1.2 seconds remaining as Jamestown beat Orchard Park, 56-54, in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 boys basketball Wednesday night.

The Red Raiders (12-6, 8-2) led 54-52 and were inbounding under the Quakers’ basket with 20 seconds remaining, but Jackson Roskow picked up a steal and scored on a lay-in to tie the game at 54.

Jamestown then missed a 15-footer at the other end of the floor before Drake’s game-winning putback.

“It was a battle all game,” Jamestown head coach Ben Drake said. “I thought we played really hard. I was really proud of our effort tonight.”

Demarri Jones led the Red Raiders with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Elijah Rojas added 14 points and seven assists. Drake scored 8 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers.

“We had a lot of different guys making plays for us throughout the game,” Ben Drake said, “and four different guys scored in the fourth quarter of a back-and-forth game.”

Jaral Farmer and Jaylen Butera each grabbed five rebounds in the victory.

Bradley Fowler led Orchard Park (12-5, 7-3) with 14 points, Roskow had 13 and Tino Mancabelli added 11.

Jamestown took over first place in the league with a pair of games remaining, Friday night against Clarence at McElrath Gymnasium and Monday afternoon when the Quakers visit Jamestown at 1:30 p.m.

NOTES: Jamestown won the jayvee game, 49-39, with Greg Brumagin scoring 20 points.

RYBIJ PACES FREDONIA TUESDAY

Kaleb Rybij’s five 3-pointers helped lead Fredonia to a 53-38 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West victory over Southwestern on Tuesday night.

Rybij dropped 23 points for the Hillbillies (14-4, 8-2), who used a 20-6 third quarter to seal the victory after a slow start in the first half.

Nick Whitfield added 12 points for Fredonia, swatting six shots, while Tyler Putney grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with two blocked shots of his own.

Aidan Kennedy led the Trojans (4-14, 3-7) with 13 points and six boards. Jon Pearson had a team-high seven rebounds while Mitch Pascarella added six and Nate Johnson led Southwestern with three steals.

CHRISTIAN HAS CAREER NIGHT MONDAY

CATTARAUGUS — Gavin Christian scored a career-high 31 points to go along with five steals, four assists and three rebounds in Forestville’s 64-50 Division 2 East win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley on Monday.

Christian had his most productive quarter in the first as he poured in 13 points on the Hornets’ way to a 21-7 lead.

Javier West turned in a triple-double for Forestville (10-8, 6-3) with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals while Dalton Hastings had 11 points, six rebounds and six blocked shots. Jake Smith chipped in seven rebounds in the victory.

Kordell Oakes led the Timberwolves (3-16, 0-9) with 17 points and Gage Furl added 12.
