Four Local Matmen Are No. 1

Ball, Ramsey, Kristan, Hoose Are Top Seeds At State Qualifier

Four local wrestlers will be No. 1 seeds when the Section VI Division II wrestling state qualifier gets underway Saturday at Southwestern.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton’s David Ball will be the top seed at 113 pounds, entering the weekend with a record of 31-3. Other local seeds in the 113-pound bracket include No. 5 Trent Burchanowski of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer, No. 6 Austin Chase of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley and No. 9 Lucas Hoffman of Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Brendon Ramsey will be the No. 1 seed at 138 pounds. Ramsey will enter the weekend with a 35-4 record on the season. Other local seeds in the 138-pound bracket include Ramsey’s teammate Brendon Rowe, No. 8 Adam Sanchez of Dunkirk and No. 9 Tyler Learn of Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton’s Ceric Kristan is the top seed at 182 pounds, entering the weekend with a record of 38-2. Joining Kristan in the 182-pound bracket will be No. 2 Hudson Johnson of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, No. 4 Everett Leonard of Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford, No. 5 Kyle Trim of Maple Grove and No. 7 Tyler Williams of Southwestern.

Southwestern’s Donate Hoose is the final local top seed with the No. 1 spot at 195 pounds. Sporting a 33-4 record on the season, Hoose will be joined in his bracket by No. 2 Jake Tomlinson of Maple Grove, No. 3 Kyle Wittenrich of Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford and No. 4 Brock Johnson of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley.

Martin Ohlsson of Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer is the No. 2 seed at 99 pounds behind No. 1 Caden Barrientos of Lewiston-Porter. Ohlsson and his 30-7 record will be challenged by No. 6 Mike Ball of Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton.

Maple Grove’s Luke Tomlinson is the No. 2 seed at 132 pounds behind top-seed Ryan Sweeney of Iroquois. Tomlinson will be challenged by No. 4 Hunter Teboe of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, No. 5 Nolan Palmatier of Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford and No. 8 Xander Hind of Randolph.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Bryce Baglia will be the No. 2 seed at 152 pounds behind No. 1 Dakota Mascho of Portville. Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton’s Cole Golembieski is No. 3, Gowanda’s Ethan Fort is No. 4 and Randolph’s Luke Pagett is No. 7.

At 220 pounds, Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton’s Alex Christy is the No. 2 seed behind Olean/Allegany-Limestone’s Connor Walsh. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Collin Beichner is the No. 3 seed, Maple Grove’s Zach Padd is No. 5 and Southwestern’s Zach Johnson is No. 7.

Jake Skinner of Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton is No. 2 at 285 pounds behind Newfane’s Jaden Heers. Skinner’s teammate, Yaniel Acevedo, is No. 4 and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Collin Mower is No. 6.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Brayden Newman is the No. 3 seed at 106 pounds where Newfane’s Andy Lucinski is the top seed. Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford’s Nolan Skowronski is the No. 5 seed and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Jack Bourgeois is the No. 8 seed.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Hunter Harris is the No. 3 seed at 120 pounds where Iroquois’ Donovan Bukaczewski is the No. 1 seed. Southwestern’s Michael Carnes is the No. 6 seed and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Brodie Little is the No. 8 seed.

At 126 pounds, Southwestern’s Garrett Swan is the No. 3 seed while Iroquois’ Jake Jozwiak is the top seed. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Joey Pillittieri is No. 4 and Salamanca’s Trevor Ellis is No. 7.

Southwestern’s Dagon Bryant is the No. 3 seed at 145 pounds behind No. 1 Ryan Nugent of Newfane. Fredonia/Silver Creek/Pine Valley/Forestville/Brocton’s Hunter Larson is No. 4, Gowanda’s Dominik Rodriguez is No. 6 and Frewsburg’s Jaiden Slagle is No. 7.

Gowanda’s Everette Golden is No. 4 at 160 pounds where Eden’s Giovanni Schifano is No. 1. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Mack Mikula is No. 7 and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer’s Zachary Wolcott is No. 8.

Southwestern’s Tate Bryant is No. 4 at 170 pounds behind No. 1 Jason Frazer of Tonawanda. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s John Kozlowski is No. 5.

Taylor Crofoot is Jamestown’s lone seeded wrestler in the Division I state qualifier at Starpoint. Crofoot is the No. 7 seed at 113 pounds.

Weigh-ins will be at 8 a.m. Saturday morning with wrestling beginning at 10 a.m. Division I finals at Starpoint will start at 5 p.m. and Division II finals at Southwestern will begin at 6 p.m.

Winners on Saturday will advance to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Times Union Center in Albany. Some wrestlers who lost at state qualifiers can be added to the state brackets later as wild cards.
