Five Victorious At Section V Girls Wrestling Invitational

BROCKPORT — Jamestown’s Skylynn Tomlinson, Maple Grove’s Maddie Wadsworth, Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Lizzie Hines, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Summer Senske and Dunkirk’s Aubrey DeLeon all won titles at the inaugural New York State Public High School Athletic Association Section V Girls Wrestling Invitational on Friday at SUNY Brockport.

Tomlinson went 2-0 at 99 pounds, beating Cheektowaga’s Molly Foxe, 4-1, and Franklinville/Cuba-Rushford’s Jewel Wozniak, 5-0.

Wadsworth won the 106-pound bracket over second-place Emily Frost of Tamarac, third-place Trista Blasz of Lancaster, fourth-place Devyn Eisenhauer of Kenmore West, fifth-place Lily Frederick of Williamson and sixth-place Leah Waterstaat of Livonia/Wayland-Cohocton.

Hines went 5-0 at 126 pounds and beat Lewiston-Porter’s Gwyneth Edwards with a 1:52 pin in the finals. In the previous round, Hines pinned Olean/Allegany-Limestone’s Madison Herner in 24 seconds. Hines opened her day with a 4-2 decision over East Rochester’s Sage Williams, then pinned Livonia/Wayland-Cohocton’s Darby Cendoma in 22 seconds before pinning Holley/Kendall’s Elizabeth Kruger in 51 seconds.

Senske won at 145 pounds over Pittsford’s Amelia Samuelson. Barker/Royalton-Hartland’s Liz Giarla was third and Salamanca’s Becca Oakes was fourth.

At 285 pounds, DeLeon took first over Kenmore West’s Mia Burgos while Salamanca’s Jessica Seekins was third.

Jamestown’s Breanna Winters was third at 138 pounds with a 4-1 record. She pinned Frontier’s Amelia Drew, Livonia/Wayland-Cohocton’s Mya Murphy and Marcus Whitman’s Avery Castner, and earned a decision over Barker/Royalton-Hartland’s Laci Giarla. Winters’ only loss was to second-place Hailey DeGroff of Warsaw.

Gowanda’s Ke’ya Stevens was fourth, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Akira Smith was sixth, Gowanda’s Emma Schindler was eighth and Dunkirk’s Alegria Solares was ninth at 120 pounds.

Gowanda’s Ashton Francis was fifth at 152 pounds and teammate Kristen Warrior was sixth at 138 pounds.

Frewsburg’s Mackenzie Muller was sixth and Gowanda’s Mia Hudson was eighth at 113 pounds.
