Bernard Edwards scored the first basket of the game Sunday.

The 6-foot-6 guard from Detroit didn’t stop raining buckets for the rest of the afternoon, leading Jamestown to a convincing, 142-103, victory over Owensboro, Kentucky in action from The Basketball League at the Physical Education Complex at Jamestown Community College.

Edwards finished with 41 points on 15 of 23 shooting from the field, including 7 of 13 from the arc, helping the Jackals even their record at 2-2 on the young season. The Thoroughbreds, meanwhile, fell to 1-3.

Nineteen of Edwards’ points came in the first half when Jamestown raced to a 67-49 lead, but the former Defiance College standout had plenty of help at the offensive end of the floor as seven teammates reached double figures. They were Drew Cushingberry with 20 points, Aaron Shepard with 12, Matthew Hart, Daniel Mulamba and Demontez Loman with 11 apiece, and Micah Shepard and Julian Powell each with 10.

All told, the Jackals shot 57% from the field (50 of 87), including 60 % (18 of 30) from distance, and held a 56-33 rebounding advantage. Mulamba led the way with 13 boards and four blocked shots. Hart dished out seven assists, while Radio Singleton added six and Aaron Shepard had five.

Davon Hayes led Owensboro with 26 points, Sean Burrell Jr. had 18, Zavier Turner scored 17, and Chris Scott and Wes Hinton both had 12.
