Auer, Lawton Lift Maple Grove Past Cougars

Peter Auer dropped 24 points as Maple Grove clinched its sixth straight victory in an 88-46 Division 2 West win over Cassadaga Valley on Thursday night.

Auer drained two 3s in the effort and dished out a team-high eight assists and nine rebounds. Lawton Tranum finished with three treys as part of a career-high 17-point night for the Red Dragons (12-6, 10-4).

Brandt Haskins led the Cougars (3-16, 1-12) with 16 points, while Connor Austin added 11.

Tyler McPherson added 11 points for the Red Dragons, grabbing seven rebounds. Austin Lindell had six rebounds and Drew Kelemen had five.

BEARS ROLL

FREWSBURG — Frewsburg erupted for 34 first-quarter points on its way to an 80-34 Division 2 West victory over Brocton.

Jameson Sposato led the way in the opening eight minutes, tallying 11 of his 16 points, while Brad Nelson had 8 and Aaron Hair chipped in 11.

“It was just their night,” Frewsburg coach Tom Nelson said.

All told, the Bears (15-5, 10-4) connected on 12 3-pointers, including seven in the first quarter. By halftime, they led 52-14.

Brad Nelson finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three blocks; Hair had 18 points and nine boards; and Peyton Hayes added 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Seth McFadden had 14 points and Mike Steward added 12 for the Bulldogs (3-17, 1-13).

PANAMA HOLDS

OFF CLYMER

CLYMER — Three Panthers scored in double figures as Panama defeated Clymer, 58-48, in Division 2 West action.

Cameron Barmore finished with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds for Panama (16-4, 10-4) and also dished out five assists. Gerrit Hinsdale had 14 points and Connor Cooper added 13.

The Panthers held a 41-37 advantage heading into the final period after being outscored 19-10 thanks to 12 third-quarter points by Hunter Wassink, who finished with a game-high 20, but a 17-11 fourth quarter by Panama helped seal the victory.

Cooper and Braden Cook finished with seven rebounds for the Panthers, while Bishop Kopta led Clymer with eight rebounds.

PORTVILLE PREVAILS

PORTVILLE — Dalton Tobola dropped 30 points for Portville (10-8, 4-6) in a 68-46 Division 2 East victory over Falconer.

Tobola nearly eclipsed his previous season high of 31 against Gowanda from earlier in the season, draining two 3’s, grabbing five boards and addings four steals and two assists in the victory.

Matthew Erickson led Falconer (2-18, 0-10) with 22 points, draining six 3’s.

Despite helping the Falcons to a 12-10 first quarter lead, the Panthers used a 14-9 second quarter and a 26-13 third quarter to take control of the game.

Mike Stillman added five assists and three steals for Portville, while Zayne Tarr finished with six rebounds.l

HORNETS FALL

FORESTVILLE — Despite an attempt at a fourth-quarter comeback, Forestville fell to Franklinville, 49-44, in Division 2 East action.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Hornets (10-9, 6-4), led by 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists from Javier West, trailed 38-30. Despite outscoring the Panthers 14-9 in the final frame, Forestville could not complete the comeback.

Franklinville (8-10, 7-3) was led by 15 points from Kameron Ramadhan and Blake and Logan Frank,who scored 12 and 13 respectively.

Gage Davis dished out five assists for the Hornets, while Jake Smith led them on the boards with eight rebounds. Dalton Hastings finished with seven rebounds and four assists.
