McDonald Captures 1,000-Meter Title At Border War

CANEADEA — Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Ronan McDonald was the lone individual winner at Saturday’s Border War Invitational held at Houghton College.

McDonald won the boys 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.31.

McDonald was also a member of the winning boys 1,600-meter relay team with teammates Rayven Sample, Riley Auer and Josh Walters as the foursome finished in 3:30.20.

Fredonia/Westfield’s Hessen Bahgat finished second in the boys pole vault, shattering his own previous school record with a vault of 13 feet, 3 inches — more than a foot higher than his previous mark.

Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Ava Crist was second in the girls 1,000 meters with a time of 3:05.48 while Dunkirk/Silver Creek’s Jericha Petrella was fourth (3:06.30) and Petrella’s teammate Juliana Flick was fifth (3:06.86).

Petrella was also third in the girls 55-meter dash with a time of 7.49 seconds.

Sample was third in the boys 300-meter dash with a time of 37.15 seconds while Auer was third (1:25.77) and Walters was fourth (1:25.95) in the boys 600 meters.

Petrella was fourth in the girls 300-meter dash (42.34) while her teammate Kylie Procknal was seventh (43.65).

The Dunkirk/Silver Creek foursome of Procknal, Siera Jacques, Jessica Vasquez and Emma Romanik was fourth in the girls 1,600-meter relay (4:32.37) while in the girls 3,200-meter relay Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Tabitha Clark, Marie Lemay, Rylee Gore and Elisabeth Root were seventh (11:17.27) and Dunkirk/Silver Creek’s Flick, Mia Piede, Yuribeth Castro and Chloe Vecchio were eighth (11:30.34).

Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Devin Austin was sixth in both the boys triple jump (38-10.25) and boys high jump (5-10) while Bahgat was seventh (5-6) in the high jump.

Austin’s teammate Tabitha Clark and Dunkirk/Silver Creek’s Emma Romanik tied for seventh in the girls pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches while Romanik’s teammate Alina Beadle was seventh in the girls shot put (31.5-5).

Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph’s Cervonte Thomas, Nick Emley, Collin Riel and John Brockelbank were seventh in the boys sprint medley with a time of 4:06.61.

Crist was eighth in the girls 1,500 meters (5:16.37) and her teammate Zach Heberlein was eighth in the boys 55-meter hurdles (8.92).
