JUSTIN R. JOHNSON

¯ Justin R. Johnson was born Feb. 17, 1976 in Jamestown. He is 1994 graduate of Jamestown High School and the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1998.

¯ Johnson was the first freshman in the history of Jamestown High School to play varsity basketball. During his distinguished career, from 1990-1994, he set school records for single-game scoring (51), single-season scoring (29.0 ppg), career points (1,670) and career rebounds (857). He still holds the career rebounding record. His jersey (No. 54) has been retired.

¯ Johnson played for the Western Region basketball team in the 1992 and 1993 Empire State Games and scored 35 points in a Ronald McDonald Charities game.

¯ Johnson was a first-team All-Western New York and third-team New York State Public High School Athletic Association selection in his senior year.

¯ Johnson was The Post-Journal Co-Player of the Year and received the Frank Hyde Memorial Scholarship in 1994.

¯ Johnson received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he continued his basketball career. He played in 82 games for the Cadets and was selected to the Patriot League All-Academic team. He received the Superintendent’s Award at West Point and graduated as a Distinguished Cadet.

¯ Johnson served as a second lieutenant with the 864 Heavy Combat Engineers at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was deployed to Thailand and Kosovo. His next duty station was at West Point where he was promoted to first lieutenant and then captain.

¯ In 2002, Johnson played for the All-Army basketball team that won the gold medal at the All-Military Tournament at Ft. Hood, Texas.

¯ Following his five years of military obligation, Johnson worked for the Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Hood for three years. He is currently employed by Baylor Scott & White Health in Temple, Texas as director of strategic initiatives.

¯ Johnson coaches youth basketball and baseball travel teams. He resides in Belton, Texas.

Tickets can also be ordered by contacting banquet chairman Chip Johnson at 485-6991. The price per ticket is $50. Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame members receive a $5 discount. Besides Johnson, the other inductees are George Bataitis, Bob Bender, Chris (Carlson) Jenkins, Bob Goold, Tim Nobles, Elly Norton, Mark Orlando and Mike Tramuta. The Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, 433 E. Terrace Ave., Lakewood, will again host the banquet. Hospitality begins at 5 p.m., with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.
