Jamestown Seeks Consistency After Win At Clarence

CLARENCE — Demarri Jones scored 22 points and brought down 11 rebounds to lead Jamestown to a 74-64 victory over Clarence in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 boys basketball game Saturday afternoon.

The win raised the Red Raiders’ record to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the division, while the Red Devils fell to 4-9 and 1-5.

“We didn’t play particularly well. I’m looking for some more consistency, but we just have to keep plugging away,” Jamestown coach Ben Drake said.

The Red Raiders trailed, 20-15, after the first quarter after Clarence came out blistering hot from the arc where it connected on six of seven attempts, but Jamestown outscored the hosts 36-17 in the middle two periods and hung on for the win.

“The third quarter is when we extended the lead,” Drake said of the 21-8 run. “That was probably our best quarter.”

Jones had 9 points in the period, while Simeon Leeper had 7 of his 20. For the game, Leeper also had six rebounds, Elijah Rojas contributed 10 points and five assists, and Jonathan Brito added 11 points.

Cole Harris led the Red Devils with 18 points, while Zach Ianello and Jake Chenevert both had 16. The Red Devils finished with 12 makes from beyond the arc.

The Red Raiders will be back in action Tuesday when they entertain Lancaster. Jamestown knocked off the Legends, 64-58, on Dec. 12.

“Tuesday will be a battle,” Drake said.

In the junior varsity game, Jamestown raised its record to 10-3 following a 70-36 victory. Greg Brumagin led the way with 17 points and Ben Anderson contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.
