Jayhawks Climb To No. 13; Torres Ranked No. 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the latest NJCAA wrestling rankings, Jamestown Community College has jumped up six spots to No. 13 while 174-pounder Dan Torres is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation in his weight class.

The Jayhawks (2-7) have competed in one dual since the previous rankings were released, facing the then-No. 9 Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves. Jamestown CC came up short, falling 27-18. The Jayhawks got wins from Joey Perry (Corry, Pa./Corry Area HS), Torres (Cassadaga/Cassadaga Valley HS) and Max Wills (Greenville, Pa./Greenville Junior Senior HS).

After their winter break, the Jayhawks got back to work, traveling to the Waynesburg Invitational. Overall, the Jayhawks finished 12th on the day with Cody Pool (Jamestown/Jamestown HS) finishing fourth in the 125-pound class and Torres finishing first in the 174-pound weight class.

Torres moved up two spots from his previous position. He has gone 5-0 in the past month, picking up a four wins over NCAA Division III opponents.

Torres and the rest of the Jayhawks will travel to Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. start. Jamestown CC will look to avenge its 35-11 loss to the Saints earlier this season.
