Dunkirk Girls Finish Third At Roy Sommers Invitational

TONAWANDA — The Dunkirk girls and boys bowling teams competed in the Roy Sommers Invitational Bowling Tournament on Saturday at Tonawanda Bowling Center.

The Dunkirk ladies finished in third place, just 34 pins behind first-place Niagara Falls and 27 pins behind second-place Webster-Thomas. Both of those schools are Large Division schools.

After the morning session of three games Dunkirk was in fourth place, 175 pins out of first.

The format for the tournament was three regular games in the morning session and then eight games of Baker in the afternoon. In Baker bowling the lead girl bowls the first and sixth frame, the second bowler bowls the second and seventh frame and so on. Dunkirk had the highest pinfall in Baker with a total pinfall of 1,486.

The final pinfalls were as follows: Niagara Falls, 2,868-1,345-4,213; Webster-Thomas, 2,830-1,376-4,206; Dunkirk, 2,693-1,486-4,179; Tonawanda, 2,678-1,409-4,087; Lancaster, 2,677-1,387-4,064.

Dunkirk’s Rachel Glowniak was named to the All-Tournament Team after a 256-192-187-635. Mariah Glowniak followed with a 172-153-206-531 and Makayla Pasierb had a 176-186-167-529. Summer Clark added a 193 game and a 509 series while Olivia Corbett chipped in a 181 game.

On the boys side, Dunkirk finished 17th out of 24 teams. The Marauders’ top bowlers were: Trevor Skelly 187-239-242-659, Brady Corbett 215-178-530 and Matt Woloszn 189-524.
