Bailey Captures New Year’s Winter Shooting Jacket

CELORON — The Celoron Rod and Gun Club hosted its 20th annual New Year’s Day shoot at its location on Livingston Avenue.

The second-year event was held in memory of Brian Whalen, who was an outstanding trap shooter, a life member of the Celoron Rod and Gun Club and a Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame inductee.

Bob Bailey and Kenton Knopp tied for first place, both shooting 49 of 50 targets. There was a shoot-off to determine the winner and Bailey prevailed. He was awarded a Bob Allen winter shooting jacket, donated by Whalen’s wife, Bonnie.

All trap shooters are invited to attend next year’s event. The clubhouse is open to the general public for open practice on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
