Austin Shines At Houghton

HOUGHTON — Devin Austin claimed two individual events at the Section VI indoor track & field ninth and 10th grade championships at Houghton College on Saturday.

The sophomore from Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph claimed the high jump (5-8) and the long jump (18-5.5), while sophomore teammate Jayden Moore-Johns was first in the triple jump (37-4.5). The remaining first-place finisher from the area was Adam Lesch of Fredonia/Westfield, who captured the ninth-grade and under 3,200 (11:44.44).

Austin also placed second in triple jump (37-4.5); Colin Riel of Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph was second in the 55 meters (7.31); and Alexis Davis of Dunkirk/Silver Creek was second in the girls 55 meters (8.072). Jamestown’s 3,200-meter relay team, comprised of Damian Brown, Liam Conroe, Jacob Smeraldo and Jordan Braymiller also placed second (11:17.17).

Finally, earning third-place finishes were Davis in the girls 300 (46.46); Moore-Johns in the boys high jump (5-4); Brown in the 600 (1:40.03); and the Dunkirk/Silver Creek 1,600-meter relay, comprised of Jorge Hasbun, Luis Balcazar, Lucas Lawrie and Alex Procknal (4:43.97).
