Bob Goold Bio

BOB GOOLD

¯ Robert A. Gould was born Oct. 27, 1954 in Jamestown. He graduated from Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School in 1973, earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport in 1978 and a master’s degree from SUNY Buffalo in 1983.

¯ Goold lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Maple Grove and played rugby at Brockport.

¯ Since 1979 Goold has coached a variety of sports at many levels, including at Frewsburg and Maple Grove, where he has coached volleyball, tennis, football, baseball, basketball and track and field. His track teams have won multiple division titles and he has been The Post-Journal Track and Field Coach of the Year three times.

¯ Goold served as the athletic director at Frewsburg Central for 20 years and founded the annual Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association sportsmanship symposium.

¯ Goold has been involved in the Special Olympics program since 1973. He was the area coordinator and coach for the Chautauqua Lakers Special Olympics from 1987-2010. He has coached USA Special Olympic teams at four Special Olympics World Games and served as a staging director at the 2015 World Games in Los Angeles.

¯ Goold founded the Bemus Point 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in 1987 as well as Esparanza Deportiva (Sports Hope), an organization that collects used sports equipment for impoverished children in Honduras in 2009.

¯ Among Goold’s many accolades are 1989 New York State Special Olympics Coach of the Year, 1990 National Coach of the Year, and 2012 Section VI Sportsmanship Award recipient.

¯ A retired educator, Goold resides in Bemus Point where he is a volunteer fireman and EMT.
