Northwest Arena recently hosted Week 7 of the Backyard Curling Leagues sponsored by Dot’s Gift Boutique.

5:30 WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The Brush Off went 2-0 this week to finish the regular season at 10-4 and capture the top seed in the first round of next week’s playoffs as they defeated Arthur R. Gren, 40-24, and Golfers on Ice, 49-31, receiving outstanding play from Sadie Stuart and Bethany Bushey.

Also going 2-0 was All Curled Up as they defeated Pepsi Zero’s, 30-28, and Arthur R. Gren, 34-30, as they were led by Michelle Richau.

Pepsi Zero’s bounced back with a 38-26 victory over Close Enough being led by Matt Ehrman. Close Enough started out the night with a 31-29 win over the Trojan Curlers as they were led by Kris Sellstrom. The Trojan Curlers knocked off the Stone Cold Curlers, 37-34, as Adam Frisbee was the top curler for the Trojans. Golfers on Ice also went 1-1 on the week as they produced the most points of the season in a single game, defeating Stone Cold Curlers, 50-31, with Jim Gustafson leading the way.

6:30 WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Neil’s Propane finished off the regular season in fine fashion as it went 2-0 to secure the top spot heading into next week’s playoffs. Neil’s knocked off Slippery Rocks, 39-21, and Dot’s Gift Boutique, 43-41, as they were led by Jeremy Gruber.

Also going 2-0 this week were The Hackers as they defeated the Conewango Curlers, 32-16, and Game of Stones, 42-34, with outstanding play from Troy Eklum and Jason Britt.

Games of Stone bounced back with a 41-38 win over Slippery Rocks with Reid VanEvery being the outstanding curler. Dot’s Gift Boutique defeated TRCurlers, 50-48, in the highest scoring match of the year with outstanding play from Rob Loll and Beth Jermain, respectively. Swedish Meatballs knocked off Conewango Curlers, 42-33, with strong play from Joe Miller.

5:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Shoeless Joe’s Pub was the only team to get two wins this week as they defeated Frozen Assets, 39-25, and top-seeded Legion of Broom, 52-42, behind strong play from Cherish Pope and Joe Jackson.

The Scuba Crew defeated the Cremators, 37-33, as they were led by Brian Ceci. The Cremators bounced back with a 50-43 win over Sweeping With Your Wife with their top curler being Jim Cowan.

Other teams going 1-1 on the night were Sweeping With Your Wife with Joe Poston leading the way; Fruit of the Brooms led by Ed Cramer and Frank Fuller; and Legion of Broom led by Todd Frangione.

6:45 MONDAY LEAGUE

Short & Curly captured the top seed in the playoffs by defeating both Jamestown Hammers, 51-39, and Making Curling Great, 49-29, having strong play from Jason Swanson and John Fisk.

Also going 2-0 this week were the Ice Holers as they knocked off Snow Ballers, 34-32, in overtime and Game of Stones, 40-34, as they were led by Nick Lucas and Vanessa Kohl.

Mary’s Smooth Red Curlers continued their hot play going 2-0 over Making Curling Great, 40-33, and Game of Stones, 37-23, with their top curlers Todd Conklin and Dennis Finneite.

Snow Ballers knocked off Merrill Lynch Cirls, 43-42, as they were led by Laura Snow and Nikki Hinderleider. Jamestown Hammers also bested Merrill Lynch Cirls, 49-43, with their top curler, Kristen Darr.

The first and second rounds of the playoffs will begin Dec. 4 for the Wednesday night leagues and Dec. 9 for the Monday night divisions. The inaugural Backyard Curling championships will be held Dec. 12 and Dec. 16 on their respective days and times. Spectators are welcome to come and watch at no charge. New January leagues will be forming soon with registration starting in mid-December.
