On Oct. 26, the Baldwin Wallace University Brown and Gold Club recognized nine former athletic greats and a dedicated faculty athletics representative by inducting them into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Lakewood resident Jim Tillotson was among the honorees. A 1977 graduate, he competed in track and field for four years, earned four letters and was a team co-captain in 1976 and captain in 1977. He was a member of four straight OAC Championship teams. He won the OAC outdoor shot put three times and held a school record in the shot put for more than 30 years until it was surpassed in 2010. He also won an OAC outdoor title in the discus. In indoor track, he was the OAC champion in shot put for three straight years. In 1976, Tillotson was named Most Outstanding Field Events Performer. Following graduation, he continued to compete in track and is a five-time winner in the discus in the Master’s Division at the New York Empire State Games, where he set five records. Tillotson is a retired school teacher at Southwestern Central School where he taught physical education and alternative learning as well as coaching football, wrestling and track.
