Six Locals Heading To State Swimming Championships
AMHERST — Six local girls will represent their schools at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships at Ithaca College on Nov. 22-23 after Section VI held its state qualifier Friday at the University at Buffalo.
Frewsburg/Falconer junior Madison Kramer will take part in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke; Southwestern junior Natalie Fosberg will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke; Trojans senior Grace Wood will swim the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle; Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville sophomore Victoria Spacciapolli will take part in the 100-yard breaststroke; and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville seventh-grader Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer will join Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove senior Hope Marshall in the 1-meter diving competition after reaching qualifying standards this fall.
On Saturday, the best performance locally was Fosberg’s in the 50-yard freestyle, which she won with another state-qualifying time of 24.66 seconds. Kramer was fourth in that same race with a time of 25.25.
Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Victoria Spacciapolli won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.28 while taking fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.06.
Wood was third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.45) and Kramer was fourth (54.56).
Southwestern was second in the 400-yard freestyle relay and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay while Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville was fifth in the 200-yard medley relay and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
On Thursday, Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer took sixth (378.05) in 1-meter diving and junior Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer took seventh (372.05) while Jamestown freshman Rheese Maggio took eighth (366.75).
