JCC Women Lose Pair In Maryland

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Shooting woes doomed the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team in its appearance in the Montgomery College Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.

The Jayhawks (2-3) shot under 30 percent in two games and fell to Frederick CC, 66-48, on Saturday and Montgomery College, 76-52, on Sunday.

Kennedy Middleton and Amiah Banks each scored 19 points and Tiana Jackson added 10 on Sunday for Frederick CC, which shot 43 percent (26 of 60) from the floor compared to only 28 percent (18 of 64) for Jamestown CC.

Courtney Hemminger was the only Jayhawk in double figures, finishing with 13 points and six rebounds. The game was tied, 43-43, after three quarters, but Frederick CC outscored Jamestown CC, 23-8, in the final period.

On Sunday, Mariah Ellis scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures for Montgomery College. Jordan Odom had 14 points, and Khienya Benjamin and Nashay Jones both had 10. Teammate Nusaibah Rashad added 8 points and 13 rebounds.

The Jayhawks, who trailed 40-17 at halftime and shot 27 percent (17 of 63) from the floor, were led by Gabby Iuculano and Abi Lisciandro with 12 points apiece.

Jamestown CC returns to action at 1 p.m. this Saturday when it entertain Cuyahoga CC.
