Volleyball Excellence

The Chautauqua Lake Central School junior varsity volleyball team competed in the Olean Volleybash Tournament at Saint Bonaventure University. The Thunderbirds finished first in their pool by beating Ellicottville, 25-9, 25-19, and Cassadaga Valley, 25-12, 25-16, and splitting with Portville, 18-25, 25-11. In the gold bracket semifinals, they defeated Allegany Limestone, 30-21, and in the finals, they played Portville again and won, 26-24, 25-13. The team was awarded with tournament championship T-shirts and a plaque. In the back row are Tatem Zemcik, Alex Reyda, Ella Woodis, Camryn Thayer, Hannah Group, Mallory Morrison and Anyah Carson. The Thunderbirds also competed in the Clarence Invitational Tournament. They went unbeaten in their pool by beating Nardin, Grand Island and Mount St. Mary’s. In the gold bracket semifinals, they won a tough, come-from-behind match against Sacred Heart, but lost to Clarence in the finals. The team was awarded a second-place trophy.
