Red Raiders Roll Past Niagara Falls, 39-24

NIAGARA FALLS — Junior Savon VanSickle rushed for three touchdowns and sophomore Jaylen Butera accounted for 182 yards in total offense and another score to lead Jamestown to a 39-24 Class AA football victory over Niagara Falls on Saturday afternoon.

The win raised Jamestown’s record to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the division, setting up a showdown with unbeaten Orchard Park (6-0, 5-0) next Friday at Strider Field. The winner of that game secures the division title.

On a sunny, but very windy, afternoon, the Red Raiders showed their versatility on offense. In addition to VanSickle (24 carries, 113 yards) and Butera (17 carries, 136 yards, and thee receptions, 46 yards, one TD), freshman Trey Drake completed 8 of 13 passes for 128 yards and two TDs, including one to junior Elijah Rojas; and senior place kicker Andrew Dix was successful on all four extra-point tries and a 32-yard field goal.

Meanwhile, Jamestown’s defense was led by senior Josh Tonkin, who recorded 10 tackles.

The Wolverines (4-2, 3-2) were led by junior quarterback, Justin Goldsmith who completed 8 of 18 passes for 172 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
