Last weekend in Maryland, Dr. Rudy Mueller completed his second Ironman triathlon this year. More than 2,200 athletes were registered from 47 states and 68 countries for this full-distance event (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run). The course included swimming with jellyfish in the Chesapeake Bay, biking in high winds through Maryland’s Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and running along the seaside town of Cambridge. Mueller finished with a time of 15 hours, 35 minutes, 28 seconds (1:35:45 for the swim, 7:39:59 on the bike, 5:58:05 for the run), placing him 38th out of 57 men in his age group and 1,438 overall. He greatly appreciated the encouragement and support from his wife and “sherpa,” Dr. Diane Mueller.
