Bears Fall To Portville In Soccer Playoffs

FREWSBURG — Portville (7-9-1, 2-6) snuck by Frewsburg (4-10-3), 2-1, in a Section VI Class C prequarterfinal soccer game on Tuesday.

Nick Harmon and Michael Cole took care of the scoring for the winners, with Kyle Mathes finishing with a pair of assists for the Panthers (7-9-1).

Lucas Eckman tallied the lone goal for the Bears (4-10-3, 3-6-1), who had Caleb Carr in the back of the net.

EAGLES PREVAIL

ELLICOTTVILLE–Mitchell Azcarate collected a pair of goals to lead Ellicottville (8-9) to a 4-1 win over Silver Creek (5-10-2) in a Class C prequarterfinal.

The Bears’ Nick Mason (5) sprints stride for stride with Portville’s Thomas Carls.

Jack Snyder and Bryce Butler also picked up goals in the win, with Butler and Simon Lin notching assists.

Darren Jiminez scored the lone goal for Silver Creek.

GOLDEN COUGARS FALL

NEWFANE — Host Newfane (7-4-2) was a 6-1 winner over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (3-13-1, 2-8) in a Class B2 prequarterfinal game.

Trevor Heschke led the winners with three goals and an assist while Connor Bowers, Connor MacEvoy and Jeremy Foltz also found the back of the net.
