Youth Football

The Westside Panthers battled the crosstown rival Southside Blue Devils on Saturday at Strider Field.

The Panthers will return to action next Saturday at Fredonia.

JAYVEE

Southside beat Westside 29-12.

Quarterback Noah Gonzalez led Westside’s offense with four completions for 100 yards. Alaric Richards had two catches, including a 55-yard touchdown. Gonzalez also scored on a 44-yard scramble. Blake Swanson led all runners with 97 yards on eight carries.

On defense for Westside, Cole Meabon led the way with six tackles followed by Cole Strickland, Gage Delahoy, and Joziah Warrior with four tackles apiece. Chris Melquist and Aiden Gearttner each recovered a fumble and had three tackles.

VARSITY

The Panthers notched a 32-6 victory over the Blue Devils.

Jericho Thagard started the scoring with a 59-yard sprint to the end zone. Nate Sanchez led all rushers with 110 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown. Ayden Samuelson extended the lead with an 8-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Dominic Gonzalez scored on a 56-yard run as well.

Ayden Samuelson led the Westside defense with eight tackles. Louis Valentine had seven tackles. Dominic Gonzales chipped in six tackles, and also stripped the ball from a running back before racing 57 yards for a touchdown. Nazayah Figuerdo, Gavin Johnson, Nick Martin and Markie Mescall each had three tackles.

MODIFIED

The Panthers overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to earn a well-deserved 38-20 victory.

Isaiah Sanchez returned a punt 41 yards and also had 163 yards rushing, including four second-half touchdown runs. Quarterback Mike Patric tossed 2-point conversions to Caleb Piazza, Carsen Bane, Cole Bloomquist and Tyler Zwald. Tyrell Reese rumbled for 85 yards, including a 38-yard burst for a touchdown.

The Westside defense had multiple players make meaningful contributions. Leading tacklers were Bloomquist with eight, Isaiah Sanchez with seven, Piazza with six, Reese with five and Tommy Pratton with four. Carsen Panebianco and Bloomquist combined for a drive-ending sack in the third quarter. Late in the fourth quarter, Xander Brunner sacked the quarterback as well.
