Jayhawks Battle Saints To 1-1 Tie

Jamestown Community College’s men’s soccer team battled NJCAA Division I opponent Mercyhurst Northeast to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday, improving to 2-1-1 on the year.

The Jayhawks grabbed a lead in the 10th minute of the first half when Axel Richardson struck a corner kick that was headed home by Lucas Olivera.

The Saints (2-3-1) would even the score 68 minutes into the game when Elie Cabwanji finished off a loose ball in front.

Jakob Moore made four saves for the Jayhawks, while Josh Husejnovic stopped six shots for the visitors.

“Conditions were tough, quite hot,” Jamestown CC coach Pat Anderson said. “There were a lot of guys out there who were struggling. We came out and had a solid effort, would have liked to see a few more balls go in the net.”

Jamestown CC will travel to meet Herkimer College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
