Jamestown CC Wins Three At Niagara County CC POD
SANBORN — Jamestown Community College swept Herkimer College, Mohawk Valley CC and Fulton-Montgomery CC at the NJCAA Region 3 Division III Niagara County CC POD on Sunday.
Jenna Caskey had three aces, 17 kills and 10 digs as the Jayhawks topped Herkimer College 26-24, 25-7, 25-19.
“That was by far her best match of the year,” Jamestown CC head coach Ashley Lund said of Caskey. “She was pretty unstoppable with four errors on 32 attempts. She was pretty dominant. Any time she had the ball, she was pretty much able to put it away.”
Karleigh Haines added three aces, six kills, six digs and a block; Maddy Russo had six aces, 34 assists, two kills and six digs; Jennah Starkweather had eight kills and two digs; and Alexys Marsh had four aces, four kills and three blocks.
Jamestown CC then beat Mohawk Valley CC 25-11, 28-26, 25-19 with Haines having 14 kills and two blocks.
“Karleigh was extremely smart,” Lund said. “A lot of those came from manipulating the court and seeing where the open spots were. She played a smart ball that game.”
Caskey had five aces, six kills, two digs and three blocks; Russo had 28 assists, a kill and four digs; Cameryn Hawkins had three aces, a kill and 14 digs; and Emma Wirsen had two aces and 14 digs.
Russo had seven aces, 26 assists and a block in the Jayhawks’ 25-11, 25-13, 25-15 win over Fulton-Montgomery CC.
“She’s really come a long way,” Lund said of Russo, a freshman from Maple Grove. “She’s working very hard to get better every day. It’s a lot of pressure for her in a completely new role. … She’s done it with a lot of grace. She’s not hesitant. She gets the ball to everybody.”
Caskey added three aces, nine kills and six digs; Haines had an ace, eight kills, a dig and two blocks; Marsh had two aces, seven kills and a block; and Wirsen had four aces and eight digs.
Jamestown CC (8-4, 4-0 Region 3, 3-0 WNYAC) will leave Friday afternoon for next Saturday’s North Country CC POD against Adirondack CC, Hudson Valley CC and North Country CC.
