Frewsburg Capitalizes On Corners Against Trojans
FREWSBURG — Taking advantage of a pair of goals off corner kicks, Frewsburg blanked Southwestern 3-0 in nonleague girls soccer action Saturday.
Makenna McBride gave the Bears (3-1-0, 1-0-0 CCAA Central) a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when she put home a Kendal Sohl corner kick. Fourteen minutes later, Alex Hultberg took a pass from Emma Edwards and scored from about 35 yards out to give Frewsburg a 2-0 lead.
“We started a lot faster,” said Frewsburg head coach Scott Stone, whose Bears handed the Trojans their first loss of the season and lost 2-0 at Southwestern on Sept. 5. “Playing on their turf is definitely an advantage for them. We kept the pressure up for the entire 80 minutes.”
In the second half, Sam Annis scored off another Sohl corner kick in the 75th minute to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
“We had some corners at their place, but we executed Saturday,” Stone said. “Any time you can score off corners that’s huge.”
Madison Voty earned her third shutout with four saves in net for Frewsburg while Hanna Johnson made 11 saves in net for the Trojans (4-1-0, 2-0-0 CCAA West).
