The Amherst Lightning Fastpitch travel softball team will be holding open tryouts for a new 12-and-under team at 4 p.m. Sunday at Frewsburg Central School’s Robert H. Jackson Athletic Complex.

The rain date with be Aug. 18.

Individual evaluations will be available upon request if those dates are inconvenient. Amherst is looking for 11 players with birth years of 2007 and 2008.

The team will hold practices in Jamestown with weekday individual lessons and weekend team practices. The team will play a minimum of one fall tournament and will have seven or eight spring/summer tournaments in the Buffalo, Erie, Pennsylvania, Corning and Rochester areas.

Southern Tier Elite will also be hosting open tryouts for its 16-and-under team on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Firemans Field near LaGrega Field in Lakewood.
