Lakers 18U Midget Team Places Second At Tournament

LEWISTON — The Jamestown Lakers 18U Midget team finished as the runnerup at a tournament at Niagara University this past weekend.

The Lakers won their first game Friday evening 5-4 over Amherst.

Thomas Lucks opened the scoring with a goal from Jackob Guimond and Zechariah Padd before Amherst tied the game at 1. Late in the first period, Cooper Spielman gave the Lakers the lead for good from Lucks and Tristan Spillane.

In the second period, Jack Brinkley scored from Luke DePonceau and Trenton Shutters to give Jamestown a 3-1 lead. After Amherst made it 3-2, Lucks and Luke Tota each scored unassisted goals.

Amherst made it 5-3 before the end of the second period before goaltender Kaleb Bender helped the Lakers hold on for the 5-4 victory.

In the Lakers’ second game Saturday afternoon, the Bud Bakewell Ice Hawks prevailed as 3-2 winners. Chase Jones scored unassisted and Lucks scored from Brinkley and Padd for the Lakers’ goals.

On Sunday afternoon, the Lakers beat the Southtowns Stars 5-2.

Devin Wolfe opened the scoring for the Lakers before Lucks tallied their next three goals for a hat trick. Spielman closed out the scoring with a shorthanded third-period goal. Wolfe and William Turner had assists in the win.

Jamestown had a rematch with Bud Bakewell in the championship game, but fell 3-0.

The Ice Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first period and that score remained through an evenly played middle portion of the game before Bud Bakewell scored a pair of third-period goals to clinch the title.
