All-American Soap Box Derby Held

AKRON, Ohio — Maple Grove’s Caleb Barton and Jamestown’s Brock Vincent were two of more than 400 boys and girls from around the world to compete in Saturday’s 82nd FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs Track.

Drivers were competing for the chance to win $36,000 in college scholarships, with Barton claimed the Stock Division while Vincent took home the Super Stock Division on June 8 at the John S. Sinatra Memorial Track outside Diethrick Park.

In the Stock Division, Cassidy Martin of Lyons, Georgia was the local winner while Cash Driggers of Tarrytown, Georgia was the rally winner.

In the Super Stock Division Saleta Nichols of Federalsburg, Maryland was the local winner while Erin Donovan of Eagleville, Pennsylvania was the rally winner.

In the Masters Division Kelsey Van Waart of Omaha, Nebraska was the local winner while Abigail Mills of West Lafayette, Indiana was the rally winner.

Local winners automatically qualify for the championship race while rally racers accumulate points to earn the chance to compete for a national title.
