Stutz Powers Legends Past Jamestown

LANCASTER — Vinny Stutz homered in both games as Lancaster swept an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 doubleheader from Jamestown, 5-4 and 14-0, on Sunday.

In the opener, the Red Raiders (5-10, 2-9) led 4-3 entering the seventh inning, but Stutz homered to lead off the frame and tie the game at 4. Trevor Reformat later singled and scored the winning run on an outfield error with two outs.

Christian Dolce threw the first 3 1/3 innings, striking out three, before Jayden Schultz relieved and struck out one over the next 3 1/3 innings for Jamestown.

Dolce also went 2 for 3 with two doubles and a run scored. Josh Tonkin hit a two-run double in the first inning and the Red Raiders took a 3-0 lead in the second when Sal Carmona scored on a Bryce Jackson sacrifice fly. The lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth inning as Carmona scored on a wild pitch.

The Legends then scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before rallying for the win in the seventh.

In the nightcap, three players combined on a no-hitter and Stutz hit a three-run home run during a six-run fourth inning as Lancaster won easily.

Nick Barberio also doubled for the winners.

Jamestown will close its league season Monday at Frontier before nonleague contests against Jamestown and Dunkirk on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
