Southwestern Hurls Two-Hitter; T’Birds Get Revenge Vs. Fredonia

Southwestern improved to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West play with an 18-6 win over Cassadaga Valley (0-10, 0-8).

Sofia Genareo and Ashton Beckerink combined on a two-hitter for the Trojans, with Genareo fanning six in five innings of work. Beckerink picked up one strikeout as she finished in the circle.

Erin Radack was 3 for 5, Kylee Dibble 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Genareo 3 for 3, including a double, and four RBIs for the hosts.

Brittyn LeBaron struck out six, walked six and hit three batters in the circle for the Cougars, and also picked up two triples at the plate.

T’BIRDS EDGE FREDONIA

MAYVILLE — Olivia Anderson scattered seven hits and struck out nine, and Kendra Keyser added a run-scoring double to spark Chautauqua Lake to a 3-2 Division 1 West victory over Fredonia in a battle for first place.

The win raised the Lady Thunderbirds’ record to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the division, while the Lady Hillbillies dropped to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the division .

“I’m very proud,” Chautauqua Lake coach Sue Teets said. “They hung in there. It was a tough game mentally. The end of the game was very tough. … They were able to pull it off.”

Anderson helped her own cause with a double.

Fredonia had chances in the top of the seventh, scoring a run to pull within 3-2, but Lily Studley made an outstanding defensive play to preserve the victory. Grace Mroczka had an RBI single for Fredonia to support Maddy Marsh, who scattered eight hits and struck out four in third circle. She didn’t issue a walk.

WESTFIELD

COMPLETES RALLY

WESTFIELD — Westfield posted a huge comeback win over Sherman in Division 2 West play.

The Wolverines (3-8, 3-7) were in a 10-run hole but rallied for an 12-11 victory as Haleigh Dellow belted a home run in the fifth inning as part of a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

Sarah Tilley and Abbi Warner each ripped doubles while Alicia Burgess was able to come down with a crucial center-field grab in the top of the fifth to keep Westfield’s hopes alive.

Tanleigh Bestine fanned 11, earning the win in the circle.

Rowan Fisher fanned one in four innings and Amaya Lewczyk struck out two in two innings in the circle for the Wildcats. Fisher also ripped a double in the loss.

PORTVILLE

WINS NONLEAGUER

PORTVILLE — Portville was a 5-2 winner over Fillmore in nonleague action.

Brooke DeYoe led the Panthers (8-4, 5-1 CCAA D1 East) in the circle with three strikeouts while allowing three walks and five hits in a complete-game performance.

DeYoe also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

JAMESTOWN

FALLS AT HOME

Kylie O’Brien had two of Jamestown’s four hits in a 21-1 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 loss to Frontier at the Martin Road Complex.

Emma Weng doubled and Olivia Gates singled for the Red Raiders (0-10, 0-6).

Lindsey Spitz struck out three in the circle.

STARS MONDAY

BEMUS POINT — Elise Swanson went 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs as Maple Grove scored 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to beat Forestville, 17-8, in Division 2 West action Monday.

Clare Crossley went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored; Sammy Davis was 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles; Lauren Grissom doubled; and Sara Berg doubled for the Red Dragons.

Kaitlyn Alguire went 3 for 4 with two RBIs; Clare Kingsfield was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI; Phoebe Kingsfield was 2 for 4; and Rachael Goodrich was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Hornets.
