BASEBALL Mitchell Pascarella Southwestern Mitchell Pascarella went 5 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs as Southwestern beat Olean, 13-11, on Monday at St. Bonaventure’s Fred Handler Park. He singled and scored in the first inning, hit a three-run double and scored in the second, added a two-run triple and scored in the third, doubled and scored in the fifth, and singled and scored in the sixth. Pascarella went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in Southwestern’s 6-3 win over Maple Grove on Wednesday. On Thursday, he struck out 14 while picking up two hits, including a triple, in a 6-3 victory over Chautauqua Lake.
SOFTBALL Ashlyn Harvey Panama Ashlyn Harvey went 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs while striking out six in a five-hitter as Panama completed a 10-2 win over Maple Grove on Friday. On Saturday, she threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Panthers beat Brocton, 13-2. Harvey also threw a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Panama beat Forestville, 3-2, on Thursday.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD Collin Barmore Falconer/Cassadaga Valley Collin Barmore was named the boys Most Outstanding Athlete at the Super 8 Meet of Champions on Friday in Salamanca. Barmore won the 1,600 meters in 4:44.04; was a member of the Golden Cougars’ winning 3,200-meter relay which set a meet record and established a state superstandard time of 8:04.67; and was a member of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s victorious 1,600-meter relay team which set a school record of 3:27.69 to also meet a state standard. He also won the 400 meters (53.5) and 800 meters (2:05.9) in a defeat of Olean on Wednesday.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD Ava Crist Maple Grove Ava Crist won the 800 meters in 2:21.10 at the Super 8 Meet of Champions on Friday in Salamanca. The Maple Grove sophomore was also a member of the winning 3,200-meter relay team that was victorious in 9:44.41. She won the 1,500 meters (4:59.2), 400 meters (1:05.2) and 800 meters (2:29.6) as the Red Dragons clinched the league title Tuesday against Franklinville/Ellicottville/West Valley.
TENNIS Jameson Sposato Frewsburg Jameson Sposato won the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association singles championship last Thursday at the Lakewood Family YMCA. The Frewsburg junior beat Fredonia’s Neil Gens, 6-4, 6-1, in the finals after dispatching of Olean’s Mark Brown, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals. On Tuesday, Sposato topped Salamanca’s Kendall Valvo, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round and Maple Grove’s Porter DeMink, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.\
GOLF Lexi Salvaggio Jamestown Lexi Salvaggio fired a 49 on Thursday to lead Jamestown to victory in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 Girls Golf Showcase at Chautauqua Golf Club. Salvaggio’s best round of the week came Monday with a 45 in a win over Ellicottville at Moon Brook Country Club. She followed that up with a 47 in a win over Olean on Tuesday at Shorewood Country Club.
