Kyler Majka threw a five-inning no-hitter as Chautauqua Lake beat Cassadaga Valley, 10-0, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action Friday. Majka struck out eight and added a pair of singles at the plate. In the completion of a rain-suspended game Tuesday, Majka finished up a five-inning performance where he struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter while allowing two runs and five hits. Majka also had a hit and two runs scored in a nonleague victory over Pine Valley.
Elise Swanson went 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs as Maple Grove beat Forestville, 17-8, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West play Monday. On Tuesday, Swanson went 2 for 4 with another home run as the Red Dragons topped Brocton, 8-2. She then had three singles in a 12-1 victory over Sherman on Wednesday and finished up her week with an RBI and a run scored against Clymer on Saturday.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Cooper Pannes won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 10 3/4 inches as well as the discus with a heave of 133 feet, 11 inches to help Southwestern claim the boys team title at the Joseph Paterniti Memorial Track and Field Classic on Friday at Strider Field. Pannes also won the shot put (45-8) and discus (128-4) in the Trojans’ 116-25 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 win over Gowanda on Tuesday.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Samantha Gilbert won the 100 meters in 12.71 seconds, the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 6 1/2 inches and the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 2 inches as Falconer/Cassadaga Valley finished fifth in the team standings at the Joseph Paterniti Memorial Track and Field Classic on Friday at Strider Field. On Tuesday, in a 106-33 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 victory over Fredonia, Gilbert claimed the 400 meters (1:06.6), 200 meters (27.0), long jump (15-8) and triple jump (32-11).
Caden Salvaggio shot a 37 for medalist honors as Jamestown beat Ellicottville, 33-22, in nonleague play Wednesday at Holiday Valley Resort. Salvaggio fired a medalist round of 3-over 39 as Jamestown beat Dunkirk, 40-15, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 play Friday at Shorewood Country Club. He also fired a 41 in a split with Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Sherman and Southwestern on Tuesday at Chautauqua Golf Club.
Eston Shedd picked up a pair of wins as Southwestern beat Jamestown, 5-0 and 4-1, in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association East Division action Tuesday. Shedd beat Shane Federko, 8-3 and 8-4, for the Trojans. On Wednesday, Shedd beat Salamanca’s Neland Cummings, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2, in an East Division loss.
