Johnson Hurls Trojans Past Thunderbirds, 3-1

LAKEWOOD — Nate Johnson took a no-hitter into the fifth inning to spark Southwestern to a 3-1 Division 1 West victory over Chautauqua Lake on Wednesday.

Johnson finished with three hits, struck out five and walked three, helping the Trojans raise their record to 7-6 overall and 5-5 in the division.

Aidan Kennedy paced Southwestern’s offensive with two hits. Johnson helped his own cause with an RBI single in the first inning.

Kyler Majka and Gavin Saurland shared the pitching duties for the Thunderbirds, combining on a five-hitter. Zach Fischer smacked a double to lead their offense.

GRAY SHINES

SOUTH DAYTON — Traden Gray collected four hits, including a double, and drove in three runs to spark Frewsburg to a 12-5 Division 2 East victory over Pine Valley.

Nick Marsh (solo home run) had three hits, and Kaleb Bender (double, three RBIs) added two hits in support of winning pitcher Jack Yost.

Branden Libby (two RBIs) and Makiah Snyder both had two hits for Pine Valley (1-7, 1-10).

Kevin Hunt and Snyder shared the pitching duties.

BROCTON ROLLS

PANAMA — Brocton (4-1, 4-4) handled Panama (2-5, 2-6), 14-2, in five innings in Division 2 West action.

Jordan Krystofiak went the distance, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out nine.

The Bulldogs offense was led by two hits apiece from Bubba Brown (three RBIs); Derek Burns (double, two RBIs), Dakota (RBI) and Nick Putcher (double, two RBIs). Blaze Miller (double) drove in two runs and Seth McFadden also added a double.

Gerritt Hinsdale (double) had two hits for Panama.

CARDS WIN IN EXTRAS

ELLICOTTVILLE — Randolph was an 8-5 winner over Ellicottville (4-6, 3-3) in eight innings in Division 2 East play.

Ashton Bushey hurdled the winners through 5 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out four before giving way to Mason Pagett who finished things off with three strikeouts and a walk.

Wyatt Adams was 2 for 3, and Jacob Bulich hit a home run and had two RBIs in the win.

Ryan DeKay pitched the Eagles through 6 1/3 innings, issuing four walks and striking out three before reaching his pitch count. Wyatt Chudy and Steven Rowland finished out the game. Lucas Marsh was 3 for 5, Clayton Rowland 3 for 5, Wyatt Chudy 2 for 5 with two RBIs, DeKay 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Rowland 2 for 4 with a double.

COUGARS

SINCLAIRVILLE — Fredonia (10-3, 8-0) was an 11-5 winner over Cassadaga Valley (1-9, 0-6) in CCAA Division 1 West action.

Trey Swartz belted four hits, including two doubles, Dalton Gardner had a single and a double, while Will Schmidt added a triple in the win. Anthony Gullo fanned six and issued two walks.

Braden LeBaron, Brandon Rodriguez and Nick Russo split time on the hill for the Cougars, while Adam Goot drilled a home run and a double, and Rodriguez ripped a single, double and triple.
