JHS Stuns Lockport

LOCKPORT — No. 8 Jamestown (7-11) pulled off a shocking 5-2 win over No. 1 Lockport in Section VI Class AA baseball quarterfinal play Tuesday.

Bryce Jackson put on another special performance for the Red Raiders, tossing a five-hit complete game with 11 strikeouts and two walks on the hill while adding a leadoff double in the first inning.

“We came out in the top of the first and put a couple of runs up for him,” Jamestown coach Dave Roehmholdt said. “The guys know once they get him a couple of runs he can kind of take care of things from there. This was one of his more effective games in terms of maintaining a lead.

After his double, Jackson scored the first run of the day on a passed ball. Jamestown made 3-0 in the opening frame as Jayden Schultz laid down a squeeze bunt to score Chris Beardsley and Peyton Olson sprinted home on another error.

Josh Tonkin and Olson each finished with two hits for the Red Raiders.

Andrew Gault fanned four, walked three and gave up three hits in four innings while Eric Stevens finished things off with two strikeouts and three walks.

“Anytime you can get a win against a No. 1 is great,” Roehmholdt said. “The kids went out and played hard and they are excited to move on to Thursday.”

The Red Raiders will travel to face No. 5 Frontier, which beat No. 4 Williamsville North, 1-0, on Tuesday.
