FRANKLINVILLE — Clymer/Sherman scored three runs in the first two innings and held on late for a 4-2 Section VI Class D semifinal win over Franklinville on Thursday.

Michael Beatman went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored to lead the offense.

Lucas Willink threw four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out four. Beatman then threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three before running into trouble in the seventh.

Zavon Overton relieved and walked a batter, but got the final two outs on a 4-6-3 double play to send Clymer/Sherman into Saturday’s noon sectional final against No. 1 Brocton at Diethrick Park.

“It was a total team effort to get the win today,” Clymer/Sherman coach Dan White said. “We played great defense behind our pitchers today.”

Reece Bates, Derek Sears and Connor Beal each singled and drove in a run for the winners.

Ben Mooney, Vinny Marchese (double) and Blake Frank each had a pair of hits for the Panthers. Jacob Peters threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (none earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Mooney threw the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

Franklinville made five errors and stranded nine runners on base.

“We put the ball in play and made the other team make plays,” White said. “We capitalized on their miscues.”
