Adams Pitches, Hits Frewsburg To Victory

FREWSBURG — MaKena Adams hit two home runs as Frewsburg completed its first undefeated league schedule in head coach Jon Blanchard’s 27-year career with a 5-3 win over Ellicottville in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 East action Friday at the Robert H. Jackson Athletic Complex.

Adams also threw a complete game, striking out nine and allowing six hits while not walking a batter for the second straight game.

Adams hit a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo shot in the third as the Bears (14-2, 10-0) took a 3-0 lead. Ashley Carlson doubled and scored on Riley Chitester’s RBI double later in the inning.

Kiah Johnson walked with the bases loaded to give Frewsburg a 5-1 lead in the fifth before Ellicottville made it 5-3 in the top of the sixth.

The Eagles then put two runners on in the top of the seventh, but Adams’ ninth strikeout ended the game and gave Blanchard his 10th league title.

Courtney Sexton struck out three and walked four while allowing six hits for Ellicottville. Mckenna Smith had two hits and scored a run while Sierra Maybee singled twice.

On Wednesday, the same two teams played with Frewsburg winning 4-2 in 10 innings in Ellicottville.

Jaycee Cappa started on second base in the top of the 10th inning and scored on Elise Sposato’s RBI single. Peyton Yost and Adams followed with RBI singles to give the Bears a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles scored once in the bottom of the 10th before Adams shut the door. She finished with 18 strikeouts and no walks while allowing four hits.

Sposato also scored Frewsburg’s first run when she doubled and scored on a Yost ground out.

Sexton struck out six and walked three for Ellicottville.

ANDERSON SHINES ON SENIOR NIGHT

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake celebrated Senior Night in style.

Senior Olivia Anderson tossed a one-hitter, struck out 12 and helped her own cause with three hits of her own to lift the Lady Thunderbirds to a 3-0 victory over Southwestern in a Division 1 West game.

Senior Kendra Keyser added a single, a double and two RBIs as Chautauqua Lake clinched the division title with the win.

Southwestern’s lone hit — a fourth-inning single –was by senior Erin Radack. Freshman Ashton Beckerink pitched well in defeat, scattering seven hits, striking out three and walking four. The loss dropped the Lady Trojans to 7-12 overall and 4-8 in the division.

HAMBURG DOWNS JHS

HAMBURG — Frontier topped Jamestown (0-15, 0-11) 11-2 in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 action.

Riley Bishop struck out 14 and only issued one walk in the win while Lauren Haak smacked two singles for the winners.

Morgan Overturf issued one walk in a complete-game performance and also added a double at the plate for the Red Raiders, who also had Olivia Gates drill a triple.

CLYMER DROPS A PAIR

BROCTON — Clymer dropped a pair of five-inning games to Brocton on Thursday night, 14-1 to the Bulldogs, and 4-1 to Sherman.

Jenelle Grigelovich was 2 for 3 with two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs; Annalise Wdowiasz scored three runs and drove in two runs; and Christine Wdowiasz drove in two runs for Brocton.

Trinidy Stacy doubled and Emily Perry drove in a run for the Pirates.

Against Sherman, Mikala Einink was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Kate Honey drove in a run.

Rowan Fisher drove in two runs for the Wildcats.
