Suicide Squeeze Helps Jayhawks Split At Genesee CC

BATAVIA — Paul Tripi’s suicide squeeze bunt scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to lift Jamestown Community College to a 6-4 victory over Genesee CC in the first game of their NJCAA Region 3 Division III baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Tripi’s bunt scored German Nolasco to highlight a three-run rally that made a winner of Evan Harrison, who gave up just one earned run in a complete-game performance.

“It was great perseverance by our squad,” Jayhawks coach Matt Cummings said. “Sloppy baseball was played on both sides … (but) it was just a tremendous pitching performance by Evan Harrison.”

Harrison worked out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh after allowing a pair of singles and sending the winning run to the plate, but he retired the final batter on a comebacker to the mound.

Carlo Rodriguez and Zach Kelley (double) each had two hits, and Nolasco belted the triple that set up Tripi’s successful bunt.

Rosalia had two hits, including a double, and Rodriguez drilled a home run and drove in two runs for Genesee CC.

In the second game, Genesee CC led 7-2 after three innings on its way to an 8-4 win.

Jake Brown had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Jayhawks (6-5, 5-3). Caleb Caldwell took the loss.

Martinez paced Genesee CC with three hits, and MacLeod (two doubles) and Rodriguez (double) added two hits apiece in support of Faynor, who pitched six innings for the win.
