Jamestown YMCA To Offer Shark Level Swimming Class

The Jamestown YMCA will be offering their Shark level swimming class for the Spring 2 session. The class will begin May 1 and run for the full eight week session.

Shark is for upper level swimmers who want to learn more than just stroke development. Shark students spend part of each class mastering the six main strokes of swimming and several variations of them. The rest of class is spent exploring a variety of aquatic activities including, synchronized swimming, water polo, competitive skills, junior lifeguarding, snorkeling and kayaking. Mastery of the strokes component earns swimmers the ability to get their hand and name on the Y’s Shark Wall.

The class is open to boys and girls ages 6-12 who are upper level swimmers. The program will be held Wednesdays 5-5:45 p.m. at the Jamestown YMCA. Registration is now open.

The YMCA will also be providing swimming lessons to all ages, which are a progressive program teaching swimming skills, stroke technique and water safety skills such as floating, treading water and safety entering and exiting a pool.

Private and semi-private swim lessons are available. The Y’s swimming programs are led by trained instructors who are certified lifeguards in addition to their formal swim instructor training.

Lessons are offered on a variety of days and times.

The next session starts April 29. For more information visit www.jamestownymca.org.
