Johnson, Pascarella Lead Southwestern Past Maple Grove

BEMUS POINT — Southwestern was a 9-4 winner over Maple Grove in non-league play, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Nate Johnson went 3 for 4 with a triple and a home run, and also scored three runs to lead the winners. Luke Tota went 3 for 3 and Mitch Pascarella went 3 for 4 while Aden Froah added a three-run double in the fourth for the Trojans.

Aidan Kennedy got the start on the hill for Southwestern, fanning four and walking for before Pascarella entered, finishing with 11 strikeouts and one walk in the final four innings.

Daren Vaillancourt got the start on the mound for Maple Grove (0-1), striking out five before giving way to three relievers.

Easton Tanner banged out a double and a single and Ayden Reagle struck a two-run single in defeat.

ELLICOTTVILLE — Clymer/Sherman picked up a 5-1 non-league win over Ellicottville (1-1) in its first game as a merged program.

Trent Burchanowski led the winners on offense with a two-run single in the sixth while Zavon Overton shined on the hill with eight strikeouts and four walks in the final four innings of play.

Lucas Willink started things out for Clymer/Sherman and pitched through one inning while Hunter Cooper fanned two and walked one in the second.

Wyatt Chudy led Ellicottville through four innings on the hill, striking out one and walking four while before giving way to Clayton Rowland and Ryan DeKay. Rowland walked five while DeKay struck out two and walked two in a pair of innings.

Rowland put the Eagles on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first while Chudy and Caleb Price each added hits.

RANDOLPH RALLY

FREWSBURG — Josh Brown’s two-run double rallied Randolph in the top of the seventh inning and sent the Cardinals to a 3-2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 East victory over Frewsburg.

Wyatt Adams reached on an error to open the seventh inning before Isaac Hind walked with one out. Brown then hit a 2-1 pitch to right-center field to plate both runners.

Brown also singled in the first inning, which was Randolph’s lone hit off Bears’ starter Aaron Hair, who struck out 10 and walked four in five innings on the mound.

Tommy Chapman earned the complete-game win for the Cardinals, striking out five and not walking a batter while allowing six hits.

Nick Marsh and Ryan Schrecengost each had an RBI single and Kaleb Bender doubled for Frewsburg.

Randolph scored its first run in the sixth inning when Ashton Bushey singled, moved up on a pair of groundouts, and scored on a wild pitch.
