JHS Grad Rojas Has Quite A Week For Hutchinson CC

PARK CITY, Kan. — James Rojas finished the NJCAA Region VI Division I men’s basketball tournament with a flourish this week.

The Hutchinson Community College sophomore and Jamestown native scored 108 points in his team’s four tournament games, which earned him All-Tournament honors, but the Blue Dragons fell to Seward County, 81-76, in the title contest.

The former Jamestown High School star and University at Buffalo signee posted his second double-double of the season with a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Seward County. He shot 10 of 18 from the floor, including a career-high four 3-point goals in eight attempts. He also added four assists.

For the season, the 6-foot-8 forward has averaged 19 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field, including 38 percent from the arc. Rojas has also moved into 24th place on the Hutchinson CC career scoring list with 934 points. His efforts were further rewarded on Friday when he was named the Jayhawk West Player of the Year.

The Blue Dragons are 26-8 on the season and now will await the NJCAA Selection Show on Monday to see if they qualify for a fifth-straight NJCAA Tournament.
