Ward Shines Again In Pole Vault

HOUGHTON — Falconer’s Rachel Ward made her mark yet again at Saturday’s Highlander Invitational at Houghton College.

Ward won the girls pole vault at a height of 12 feet, 6 inches.

Dunkirk’s Jericha Petrella also had an impressive day, taking second in the girls 600 meters (1:38.69) and fifth in the 300-meter dash (43.43).

Petrella was also a member of Dunkirk’s second-place 1,600-meter relay team (4:23.08) teaming up with Kylie Procknal, Juliana Flick and Sierra Jacques in that race.

Dunkirk’s boys also had a pair of second-place relay teams. Anthony Ruiz, Miracle Berakah, Angel Rios and Nelson Rosario were second in the 1,600-meter relay (3:39.53) while Jonah Rosas joined Rosario, Ruiz and Berakah for second in the 800-meter relay (1:36.87).

Jamestown’s Giovana Calamunci took third in 55-meter hurdles (9.12) while Fredonia’s Emily Brown was fourth in the 1,500 meters (5:07.18).

Local fifth-place finishers included Jamestown’s Francisco Rodriguez in the 55-meter dash (6.84); Fredonia’s Diego Rey in the 1,000 meters (2:47.14); Jamestown Harrison Monfort in the 300-meter dash (37.95); Fredonia’s Kelly Lucas in the high jump (4-8); Falconer’s Devin Austin in the high jump (5-8); Fredonia’s Hessen Bahgat in the pole vault (11-6); and Maple Grove’s Alyssa Steen in the shot put (32-6).
