The Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association will hold registration day for its High School Club Team on Monday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Gymnasium, 200 Hunt Road, Jamestown.
Registration is for the 2019 competitive spring season. Pre-registration, currently open, is preferred but is not mandatory. The CLRA provides a fun and competitive environment in the sport of rowing for boys and girls in grades 8-12. Athletes as young as seventh grade may be eligible to row and are handled on an individual basis.
For the steersman (those smaller athletes who steer and encourage rowers in the racing shells), eligibility is from seventh through 12th grades. No experience is necessary to be a part of the CLRA Club Rowing Team. CLRA coaches will provide the training to learn to row or act as steersman. Rowing is great for cross training and one of the best team-oriented sports.
Students from all local schools are welcome to register and become part of the club team. Indoor practices for boys start Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. The first girls practice is Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Combined practices begin Monday, March 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each day except Wednesday. Outdoor practices, dependent upon weather, begin March 18 at the boathouse, 18 Jones and Gifford Ave., Jamestown. Outdoor practices run Monday through Friday, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
For more information on the team and to register, visit CLRA’s website at http://www.rowchautauqua.org. Contact information for team coaches is also provided under the high school tab. For those who have additional questions, appointments can be made for parents and athletes to meet a coach at the boathouse, Jones and Gifford Avenue, Jamestown.
