Rey Wins 1,000 Meters At Section VI Team Championship

HOUGHTON — Diego Rey of Fredonia had an excellent day at the Section VI Indoor Track and Field Team Championship at Houghton College on Saturday.

Rey took home an individual title in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:36.94.

Rachael Ward also had a strong day of competition for Falconer, taking second in the pole vault behind Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park with a height of 12 feet.

Lancaster came away with the team title with 122 points, Hutch Tech was second (67), while Orchard Park took third (63). Allegany-Limestone/Olean/Franklinville/Portville finished with 37 points and Jamestown 14.

Ward’s teammate Collin Barmore also took home a second-place finish, clocking a time of 9:55.10 in the 3,200-meter run.

Leading Jamestown on the day was Francisco Rodriguez, taking second in the 55-meter dash in 6.74, trailing only Abraham Averhart of Niagara Falls.

Giovana Calamunci had a strong day for the Red Raiders, taking fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time 9.09.

In the girls 600-meter run, Jericha Petrella of Dunkirk took second (1:39.83), while Naciela Barber of Jamestown grabbed fourth (1:41.34).

Harrison Monfort of Jamestown grabbed fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:26.68.

In the girls 1,600-meter relay, Dunkirk’s team of Sierra Jacques, Juliana Flick, Kylie Procknal and Petrella took second behind Hamburg with a time of 4:16.61.

The Marauders had a similar result in the boys race, as Miracle Berakah, Anthony Ruiz, Angel Rios and Nelson Rosario took second with a time of 3:38.15, trailing only Orchard Park.

Dunkirk grabbed fourth in the boys 800-meter relay as Jonah Rosas, Ruiz, Rosario and Berakah finished in 1:37.88.

Alyssa Steen of Falconer finished in fifth place in the girls weight throw, hitting a toss of 36 feet §inches.
