SANBORN — Jamestown Community College men’s basketball coach Xavier Churnac was more than satisfied with his team’s defensive effort Saturday in its NJCAA Region 3 Division II game at Niagara County CC.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t say the same thing for the offensive results.

The Jayhawks were guilty of 27 turnovers and shot just 12 of 23 from the foul line, resulting in an 80-69 loss, which dropped their record to 9-8

“Moving forward, if we make our free throws and just clean up the turnovers, we’ve got a good chance to make some noise in our region,” Churnac said.

Jamestown CC trailed by a point, 32-31, at halftime, by five at the 12-minute mark of the second half and by eight with four minutes remaining, but couldn’t get any closer.

“I was proud of our defensive effort,” Churnac said. ” … It was the offensive side of the ball that lost us the game.”

Fode Camara led four Thunder Wolves (18-4) in double figures with 16 points. Najee Scott added 12, and Hunter Anderson and Dytanya Mixson both had 11.

Jared Fish and Tyairus Sands led the Jayhawks with 14 points apiece, and Raekwan Canty and Trayon Rumley both had 12. Sands also grabbed 11 rebounds and Rumley added six assists.

Jamestown CC returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Erie CC. Opening tip is at 7:30 p.m.
