Wood, Yuchnitz Take No. 1 Seeds To UB

Southwestern’s Grace Wood and Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Karianne Yuchnitz have targets on their backs.

The duo enters Friday’s 5 p.m. Section VI Swimming Championships at the University at Buffalo as No. 1 seeds.

Wood qualified No. 1 after her state-qualifying cut of 1:54.87 in the 200-yard freestyle while Yuchnitz took the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle with a state cut of time of 24.06.

Jamestown’s Allie Stockwell is the No. 2 seed in the 50-yard freestyle (state cut, 24.30) while Southwestern’s Natalie Fosberg is No. 5 (state cut, 24.61). Frewsburg/Falconer’s Kiah Johnson is No. 26 (26.04).

Frewsburg/Falconer’s Madison Kramer qualified No. 2 in the 100-yard backstroke with a state-cut time of 59.79. Fosberg also reached a state cut of 59.91 and is seeded No. 3. Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Mackenzie Quinn is the No. 20 seed (1:04.50), Southwestern’s Ellie Kreinheder is No. 25 (1:05.76) and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Grace Mroczka is No. 28 (1:06.10).

Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Abi Lisciandro is the No. 2 seed in today’s 5:30 p.m. 1-meter diving championships at Maryvale High School with a state-qualifying score of 461.35. West Seneca East’s Lindsey Weissman had the top qualifying score (472.15) while Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer is No. 8 (394.85) and Isabella Pucci-Schaefer is No. 9 (389.65). Salamanca’s Mushirah Sheppard qualified at No. 11 (382.20), Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Hope Marshall is No. 16 (377.65), Jamestown’s Rheese Maggio is No. 21 (356.30) and Frewsburg/Falconer’s Claire Johnson is No. 29 (334.05).

Wood is the No. 4 seed in the 100-yard freestyle with a state-qualifying cut of 53.79. Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Izzi Bailey is No. 10 (56.24), Frewsburg/Falconer’s Dani Gray is No. 27 (57.98) and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Lillee Gould is No. 29 (58.18).

Stockwell is the No. 7 seed in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.96) while Jamestown’s Grace Osborne is No. 23 (1:05.36), Quinn is No. 27 (1:05.81) and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Jenna Sherlock is No. 30 (1:06.44).

Bailey is the No. 8 seed in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.55) while Frewsburg/Falconer’s Olivia Ekstrom is No. 25 (2:08.61).

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Victoria Spacciapolli is the top local seed in the 100-yard breaststroke (No. 8, 1:10.52) while Southwestern’s Teagan Shedd is No. 16 (1:13.63), Frewsburg/Falconer’s Kaylee Constantino is No. 18 (1:13.76), Jamestown’s Emily Spitz is No. 19 (1:13.78), Frewsburg/Falconer’s Brianna Rosequist is No. 25 (1:15.14), Southwestern Katja Kranzo is No. 26 (1:15.15), Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Kaelyn Zebraski is No. 31 (1:15.55) and Frewsburg/Falconer’s Madison Albright is No. 34 (1:15.99).

Victoria Spacciapolli is also the top local seed in the 200-yard individual medley (No. 9, 2:19.04) while Kranzo is No. 12 (2:20.78) and Sherlock is No. 19 (2:23.94).

Spitz is the No. 16 seed in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.85), Ekstrom is No. 18 (5:44.59), Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove’s Leah Saxton is No. 24 (5:48.48) and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton’s Julia Fortna is No. 30 (5:50.33).

Frewsburg/Falconer qualified as the No. 6 seed in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.59) while Jamestown is No. 10 (1:45.23), Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove is No. 11 (1:45.44), Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton is No. 16 (1:46.26) and Southwestern is No. 22 (1:48.64).

In the 200-yard medley relay, Southwestern is the No. 7 seed (1:55.07), Frewsburg/Falconer is the No. 13 seed (1:56.81), Jamestown is the No. 18 seed (1:58.46) and Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove is the No. 26 seed (2:07.36).

Southwestern is the No. 8 seed in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.52), Panama/Clymer/Maple Grove is No. 10 (3:52.06), Frewsburg/Falconer is No. 12 (3:52.81), Jamestown is No. 18 (3:57.14) and Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville/Brocton is No. 22 (3:59.13).

New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships will take place Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17 at Ithaca College.
